Solution: Alstom prepared a detailed specification for the accommodation it required, and asked three modular building suppliers to submit proposals. The solution proposed by Portakabin proved to be the most comprehensive package – it met all of the firm’s specifications and offered the best value. It was backed up by the Portakabin Customer Charter, which promises to deliver buildings on time and on budget – and if a building is ever delayed, the company offers a week’s free hire for every day it is late.

Not only could Portakabin supply the highest quality Ultima building modules to create the new offices, it could provide a complete one-stop-shop solution by fitting out the offices with climate control and a full range of furniture.

Eight Ultima modules were used to build the two-storey office structure for Alstom, incorporating open-plan office areas on both floors, a kitchen area, meeting rooms, conference room and directors’ offices. The building was delivered and installed by Portakabin, and then fully fitted out with desks, screens, drawer units, low-level storage cupboards and the climate control system. The whole project was completed in time for the arrival of the project teams from all over the country.
