The money will be used to introduce an Excellence in Technology Award, which will further support the schools specialist status and recognise those pupils who show a real improvement and flair in this field.
Following a severe fire at the school in 2004, Portakabin was chosen to supply an interim school building whilst the permanent structure was being re-built.
The scale and demands of the project meant that a strong relationship between the school and the Portakabin Nottingham Hire Centre in Beeston was quickly formed.
Martin Jones, Manager at the Hire Centre, said, ‘We’re very pleased to be working with Arnold Hill School on this innovative scheme, which aims to encourage more young people to get involved in technology projects. Portakabin is proud of its track record of technological innovation, so sponsoring an award in this field is an excellent way of finding and encouraging talent that may one day be part of the Portakabin team.’
The introduction of the Excellence in Technology award is a great enhancement to the school’s existing Behaviour For Learning scheme, which rewards good behaviour and disciplines bad behaviour.
An annual award ceremony will take place at the Nottingham Albert Hall at the end of the academic year where the Award for Excellence in Technology will be presented.
Alan Philpott, Director of Business and Administration at Arnold Hill School & Technology College, said, ‘We’re delighted that Portakabin is supporting the school and encouraging further excellence and achievement in technology. We are a specialist technology college so to have links with well-known industry names such as Portakabin is a real advantage for the school and the pupils.
‘Behaviour For Learning is a pioneering scheme and has proved to be a real success so far. The implementation of specialist awards from businesses like Portakabin can only continue to grow this further.
‘The pupils are very excited about getting involved in the new award, and we’re looking forward to seeing some innovative technology projects being developed over the coming months and years as a result.’
